We are pleased to release the entry information for this season’s BUCS-UPC Nine-ball Pool Championships to be staged at Mercure Hotel – Telford.
BUCS-UPC Nine-ball Pool Championships
Individual Championship/Trophy: 25th – 27th November 2021
Team Championship/Trophy: 26th – 28th November 2021
Venue: The Mercure Hotel – Telford
Entry Fee: Composite entry of £149pp for current students, which includes three nights in the hotel (on a two person sharing basis) and entry into individual and team competitions
Teams are made up of a maximum four players, three of which play in a match.
Deadline for entries: Players will now have until 23:59 on Tuesday 9 November to enter the event on BUCS Play, following which AUs/SUs/Sports Offices will have until 23:59 on Thursday 11 November to approve their institution’s entries. There will be no extensions to these deadlines, so please make sure you have everything ready in time, including contacting your AU/SU/Sports Office in advance to make sure there will be someone with access to BUCS Play available to authorise your entries.
Event Size: A maximum of 64 teams will be accepted and preference will be given to first teams, then second teams, etc then to institutions highest in the competition rankings. For
example, if 80 entries are received comprised of 40 first teams, 20 second teams, 12 third
teams and 8 fourth teams then all of the first teams, all of the second teams and the four
highest-ranked institutions’ third teams would be accepted (with the fifth-highest ranked
institution’s third team being first reserve, the sixth-highest ranked institution’s third team being second reserve, etc).
Guest Entries:
IMPORTANT UPDATE (posted 15:52, Tuesday 9th November)
Following an objection raised yesterday (Monday 8th November) afternoon by a member institution’s AU/SU, BUCS this morning took the decision not to allow guest entries to compete in the forthcoming Nine-ball Championships.
Please note that, while UPC had a marginal preference – albeit still a preference – of allowing guest entries, we do not have authority to circumvent BUCS’ decision in this matter.
We apologise wholeheartedly to all of those for whom this news will cause disappointment, but cannot stress enough that there is nothing that UPC could have done to have prevented it. We have contacted everyone we were able to identify as a guest entry from the latest update we received from BUCS (11:57 yesterday morning) and again apologise to any others that had already entered who we were not able to identify as guest entries and who are only now finding out that they will not be allowed to participate.
With the replacement of the old “BUCScore” entry system by the new BUCS Play, the notion of an “Entry Information Sheet” has become somewhat redundant.

We will, however, require each institution to email directly to Tournament Director, stephanie.laba@upc-pool.org.uk, a simple form effectively letting UPC know which players are in which teams. We will chase this if we don’t receive it but, being as we obviously don’t know who’s entering just yet, can we ask that each institution’s main contact emails Stephanie to request a form.
