Excitement in the university pool scene reaches fever pitch in anticipation of the forthcoming BUCS-UPC Eight-ball Championships to be held at Vauxhall Holiday Park in Great Yarmouth from 20th to 23rd February 2014. With almost 600 attending, and 108 teams from 49 universities, playing in both team and individual tournaments, including the first ever BUCS-sanctioned women's event this year, the level of competition on the 56 tournament standard pool tables is expected to be fierce.

We are pleased to announce some exciting initiatives and services taking place at this week's BUCS-UPC Eight-ball Pool Championships event in Great Yarmouth:
Flyers / Practice Tables
At close of official tournament play each evening, some tables in the main hall (Regency Room) will be set aside for organised flyer competitions for those interested – please listen out for announcements during the day about how to register for these, which will be organised by the support staff and not the UPC. All remaining tables will be available for (paid) open practice, as will the games room throughout the event.
Speed Pool
Time and staffing constraints permitting, we hope to bring back the popular Speed Pool Team Relay to the event. Heats of 4 teams, racing against each other to clear 5 tables as quickly as they can. Some amazing pool, some not so amazing pool, and a bucketful of sweat is guaranteed amid the Friday night drama!
Streaming & Social Media
Selected matches (Friday onwards) will be streamed live on the internet at www.upctv.info and recordings of all featured matches will be available for re-watch at a later date! Our thanks go to Lee Broad and Paul Kershaw for providing this service to the UPC.

Pool Shop
We are pleased to announce that Sanctuary Cues, run by Aggie Bailie, will have a pool shop at the event this year (Thursday to Saturday only). Aggie will offer the usual pool shop equipment and suplies, as well as re-tipping (using a mini-lathe), re-ferrules, and cue MOTs, so if you want to sort out your cue once and for all, giving yourself absolutely no excuse for failure – here's your chance!
Pool Coaching
As part of our coaching initiative, Steve Daking (UPC Head Coach and World Trickshot Champion) will be running free coaching sessions during the weekend, using the practice tables in the Games Room. This will take the form of open, "drop-in" sessions, covering a range of subjects including how to become a coach yourself, interspersed with fun tutorials.
